Remember when summer seemed to stretch endlessly for you when you were a child? Did you savor the promise of adventure that each new day held?

Now that you are “the parent”, perhaps you’ve forgotten that the gift of summer is time…unstructured, simple time.

Even if you are a working parent, you can create space for your child to have unstructured time and:

Rejuvenate and relax Get bored and discover something new to do Make new discoveries about themselves Savor and strengthen family relationships

Ideas for savoring those lazy days of summer:

Nature! Be outside in new ways:

Get up early and take a walk in pajamas. Who is up at that hour? Are there workers? What are they doing? Have an all-day, out-side day…do everything outside…eat, sleep, read, play.

Eat! Summer is a perfect time to change the way you eat – even if only for a day.

Make popsicles and have them with dinner! Picnic on the living room floor, on the porch, or in the backyard. Try some new foods, try a new recipe.

Music! Many communities have free summer concerts.

Take a picnic. Meet friends, make new ones. Be sure to dance!

Books! Have a Book Festival!

Grab pillows, blankets, make a fort and bring out the “old” children’s books that your kids may have outgrown. They love reading them again. And this time, maybe they’ll be reading them to you! Libraries – visit often and take part in their summer reading programs. Be sure you have a stack of books for yourself. Read cartoons, comic books, and magazines, too.

Art! Summer is a great time to explore free-form art:

Sidewalk chalk – Decorate your sidewalk…and your neighbor’s (ask permission, of course). Invite them to join you. Decorate the neighborhood! Washable markers make great body paint. Draw on each other and then wash it all off under the sprinkler. Have lots of paper around…make little books, hang butcher paper on the side of the garage for a mural, envelopes and funny stickers for letters to grandma, make paper airplanes and have a flying contest. Papier mache’ (from very inexpensive powdered wallpaper paste) is a great way to create 3-dimensional forms, use found objects and paint the finished ‘creature.’ Paint or collage rocks. Paint smooth rocks to liven up the garden. Older children enjoy cutting out magazine pictures. Mod Podge attaches pictures and also protects them from weather. Add glitter paint, sparkles, googly eyes and gems for truly spectacular art!

And after all that, they may still say, “Mom, I’m bored!” That’s great! Bring it on! Let it happen! Listen to their complaints (with interest but do not solve their dilemma). Kids need to experience boredom…out of it comes creativity, innovation and a belief in their own capabilities.

And yes, the kids will argue and fight. Keep an ear out for danger, otherwise, let them work it out – outside! They are learning how to negotiate and navigate social relationships.

Be sure to take some time for yourself this summer, too.

You can clean the house in September!

Enjoy!

You set the date and sent out the invitations with the greatest of intentions of planning the perfect birthday party for your child. Then somehow time got away from you, the date is fast approaching, and you’ve done little more than buy the gifts and order the cake.

If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. Parents everywhere are struggling to keep up with all the daily household and career responsibilities while taking care of the seemingly endless to-do list that comes along with parenting. In a bad economy, this becomes even more of a challenge. However, all is not lost. You can still throw a great party with plenty of fun activities that will earn your child bragging rights and have his or her friends talking about the fantastic time they had long after the party’s over.

Today’s generation of parents have a secret weapon on their side that gives them an edge that their parents didn’t have — the Internet. We’ll tell you how to save time and surf the web to quickly locate a full day’s worth of fun, and often free, interactive activities to make your child’s party truly unique and memorable without leaving the comfort of your home.

Below are just a few of the game ideas that are sure to be a hit, are ready to play, and just a click away:

Embark on a Treasure Hunt – Kids of all ages love to solve puzzles, follow a trail of clues, and race to track down hidden loot, and a classic printable treasure hunt with fun and clever pre-made clues is the perfect solution when you need an exciting party game quickly that children will love. An online treasure hunt can be simply downloaded, printed, and played instantly at minimal cost, and comes complete with a hiding guide to help you coordinate and pull off the perfect hunt that will bring your party to life! And don’t limit yourself to birthdays – these can be used to entertain your young children, teens, and their friends during sleepovers, on holidays, at picnics and while outdoors, on vacation, in the classroom, or for family fun night, plus there are many other themes to choose from. To learn more about how these hunts work and order online, visit http://www.treasure-adventure.com

Play the Pantomime Game – This hilarious game will have children up on their feet and in all sorts of crazy positions as they attempt to mimic poses picked from a deck of printable cards. It’s a great way to break the ice and get kids interacting while having fun and improving their coordination and creative thinking skills. All you need is a printer and flexible children ready to play. http://www.printgames.net/english/pdf_e/panto.pdf

Solve Puzzles & Word Games – You can create your own personalized word searches, crossword games, or jigsaw puzzles based on your party theme. For example, for your child’s birthday you might want to create a word search or puzzle containing your child’s favorite things, for a music themed party use names or pictures of instruments, or for a pirate party have the kids search for pirate jargon or treasure items, etc., and award small prizes to the one who uncovers all the words first or completes the puzzle first. Several web sites exist that let you generate your own unique puzzles and word games. You can even add your own graphics and personalize with your child’s name. To make your own word search puzzle you might try the web site http://www.billybear4kids.com/jigsaw-puzzles/WorkSheetMachine/WordSearchMachine.html, create your own jigsaw photo puzzle using a generator like that found at ”flash-gear”, or build a fun and challenging crossword puzzle using “edhelper” online.

Compete in the Paper Airplane Olympics — Have each child create a paper airplane, and then let them decorate their aircraft with their own personal style. You can divide the pilots into fighter teams or play as individuals. The planes then are raced through the air towards a target and judged in 3 different categories: best appearance, greatest distance in flight, and most accurate. The kids will love showing off their artwork and sending their airplanes soaring. The best part is all you need is some paper and crayons! Learn how to fold airplanes online at “wonderhowto” website.

“Capture the Spoons” – This is a fast-paced exciting and very popular card game that is perfect for large groups. All you need is one or two decks of cards depending on the size of your party, and kitchen spoons for all but one of your players. The kids form a circle and rapidly pick and pass along discarded cards trying to get 4 of a kind while keeping an eye on the spoons and other players in the event someone else gets 4 first. The first person to get 4 of a kind then tries to sneak away one of the spoons that have been placed in the center. Once one spoon is taken, the rest of the children must all dive into the center to get a spoon before they’re gone, and the one left without a spoon is either out of the game (shorter version) or given a letter each time, starting with “S,” until “SPOONS” is spelled and they’re out of the game (longer version). Don’t forget to include this easy classic party game that is a sure-fire winner that kids will love! Full rules are available online at “about boardgames”

Do-it-yourself party planning becomes a breeze when you take advantage of all the free and inexpensive kids games and activities that can be found on the world wide web that are perfect for livening up any children’s party without the stress of last-minute shopping in crowded stores with limited time and paying high prices for party games or party planners.

This article teaches kids about aeronautics and gives a handful of totally fun activities to experiment with for their homeschool science learning (including helicopters, parachutes, and other flying machines). It’s also good for boy scouts working on a badge, or for any kids that love science experiments. These experiments are part of a homeschool science program that I teach, and I promise your kids will love it.

Every flying thing, whether it’s an airplane, spacecraft, soccer ball, or flying kid, experiences four aerodynamic primary forces: lift, weight, thrust and drag. An airplane uses a propeller or jet engine to generate thrust. The wings to create lift.

The smooth, pencil-thin shape minimizes drag. And the molecules that make up the airplane attributes to the weight.

Let’s find out what are all the parts of an airplane for. You’ll need to get a cheap balsa wood airplane for this next part – check out your local drug store or toy store. I’ve even found them in grocery stores for about $2.

Take the balsa wood airplane and try to fly just the body (no wings or fins). It flips all over the place. Try flying just the large wing (no body). Somersaults! Now slide the large wing into the body and fly (fewer somersaults, but still sickening to fly in!). Now add a horizontal stabilizer (elevator) tail, and when you throw it, add a slight curve so the plane “fishtails” in the air (like a car)… but did you notice that there are no more somersaults? Add the vertical tail (rudder) and see how it now steers straight no matter how to curve-throw it.

Sneaky Tip: if you remove the metal clip on the nose beforehand, you can add it last to really see what it’s for… notice where most of the weight is without the clip?

Tip for Teaching Homeschool Science: Keep a small box handy with these items inside: paper clips (in two different sizes), rubber bands, scotch tape, scissors, index cards, string, copy paper, hole punch, crayons, and a stapler. Label your box “Flying Paper Machine Equipment”. Pull the box out, add kids, and stand back.

Ready to make more flying things? Let’s make more things that fly, zoom, twirl, and soar while teaching homeschool science at the same time!

Helicopters Cut out a paper rectangle 5 by 2 inches. Cut lengthwise down the strip, stopping about an inch before the end. Tape this uncut inch to the end tip of a popsicle stick. Fold the “bunny-ear” flaps down in opposite directions. Throw off a balcony and watch it whirl and gyrate! Optional: You can notch the end of the popsicle stick to make a sling-shot helicopter. Make a quick slingshot launcher by looping a rubber band to another popsicle stick end.

Butterfly Cups Tape two Dixie paper cups together, bottom-to-bottom. Chain together six rubber bands. Loop one end of the rubber band chain over your thumb and hold your arm out horizontally straight, palm up. Drape the remainder of the chain along your arm. Place the taped butterfly cups at the free end (near your shoulder) and slowly wind the rubber bands around the middle section of the cups. When you wind near the end, stop, stretch the chain back toward your elbow, make sure the rubber band comes from the underside of the cups and release. The cups should rotate quickly and take air, then gracefully descend down for a light landing. Try making one with four cups.

Hot Air Balloons Shake out a garbage bag to its maximum capacity. Tape (use duct or masking tape) the open end almost-closed… you still want a small hole the size of the hair dryer nozzle. Use the hair dryer to inflate the bag and heat the air inside (make sure you don’t melt the bag). When the air is at its warmest, release your hold on the bag while you switch off the hair dryer. It should float up to the ceiling and stay there for a while. This experiment works best on cold mornings. The greater the temperature difference between the bag’s air and the surrounding air, the longer it will float.

Parachutes Attach a piece of floss or thin string to the four corners of a tissue. Attach a stick, a small wad of stones wrapped in another tissue, a pinecone, etc. to the centers of the string. Practice dropping these from the balcony and see which falls slowest with which load.

Ring Thing Cut an index card into thirds lengthwise. Loop one strip into a circle and tape ends together. Place two remaining strips together end-to-end and tape, then loop into large circle and tape in place. Place a piece of tape across one end of a straw and gently secure one ring to the tape. Repeat on the other end with remaining ring. Make sure the two rings are concentric (you can see through both like a telescope). Throw it small-end-first!

Free Form Machines Make an obstacle course with some or all the following different challenges: Hit a target balloon (arm the machines with opened paper clips); Go over and under a suspended length of string; Make it through a hula hoop suspended vertically or horizontally; Carry a jelly bean passenger safely across shark-infested waters (two tables spread apart); Dangle large paper airplanes (made from 11×17″ paper, or two 8.5×11″ papers taped together to make an 11×17″) from the ceiling for a ‘dogfight’ to earn points if you tag one; Shoot through the basketball hoop, and dive into a basket.

Anytime you want to move somewhere else and you have a pet dog, think of transport dog crates. Your dog needs to be comfortable as they can in the entire travel. Otherwise, you will find them pitiful and worst look like drunk if you just stuff them in a box. Putting them in a box and leave them on the cargo bay area on an airplane looks ridiculous. Transport dog crates are an ideal solution to this problem for dog travel.

There is no problem for your dogs if you travel by land or car. But if you have to travel by air, then you need a transport dog crates. Owning a dog is sometime expensive. But if you love and care about your companion dog you should invest in a USDA approved transport dog crates. It has to be custom fit to the size of your pet dog. You also need to ensure that the transport dog crates provide enough room and space for your pet to stand and turn around.

Especially on long flights they need some comfort.

Always ensure that your pet animal or puppy could stand as well as have the ability to turn around whenever he needs to. Buy the crate well before the date of the travel and get the dog to familiarize with it. Do not wait until you are about travel. Getting accustomed with the dog crate is a must. Get your dog or puppy sleep in the transport dog crates for a week prior to your departure. This way he will get accustomed to it and thereby would not have any problem during the travel.

Sometimes the airlines might loss or misdirected some baggages. To avoid this type of hassles you have to clearly mark the transport dog crates with your name and address including your telephone numbers. Always ensure that there is written address of destination to prevent an incorrect destination. This way they can contact you in case something untoward happens.

If your flight will take 8 to 12 hours, make sure to provide food for your dog or puppy for the duration of the flight. What you can do is tape the food outside the transport crate and leaves a feeding instruction for whoever is taking care of your pet dog during the flight.

To avoid your pet dog from making a big mess during the flight, do not feed them 6 to 8 hours before the flight. This will prevent or reduce the chances of them vomiting or having accidents as they may become disoriented or distressed especially at the start of the flight.

To keep your favourite pet dog hydrated, it would be wise to put a bowl of ice inside the kennel. The bowl of ice will eventually melt away bit by bit. This will give or provide him enough fluids hours later. It is also advisable to put absorbent paper and bedding in case the dog makes some mess.

For smaller dogs like Chihuahua, its best if you can ask the airline if it is possible to take it with you inside the plane and put it under the seat. For most airlines they do accommodate these arrangements. But you have to arrange it before your scheduled flight.

In conclusion, transport dog crates are very important when you are travelling with your pet dog by air. This type of investment could be worth if you love and care about your pet dog.

Despite a recent report in one of the nation’s top news papers detailing the surprising string of accident free years in commercial aviation, aviation lawyers have been kept busy by any number of legal and liability issues. It has been found in a recent study that commercial fights in the United States have gone two consecutive years without a related accidental death. This is the first time that in the history of United States aviation that this feat has occurred. However, the average aviation lawyer still must battle over certain safety and liability issues that have kept the need for such specialized lawyers in demand. These lawyers, while obviously not having to concern themselves with personal injury claims due to accidents in the previous years of relative safety, have still had their hands full with defining regulatory bodies and creating new and protective laws for consumers, bystanders, and workers.

While assigning liability in an accident and insuring that a claimant receives due process of law and proper compensation where deemed necessary is the primary task of an aviation lawyer, it is not the only task. These specialized lawyers must deal with a complicated set of government institutions at the state and local level, and may even have to deal with international regulatory bodies for large, commercial flights. These agencies, committees, and other regulatory bodies are largely created from case files brought through and prosecuted by lawyers. Just like criminal law, aviation law has been created by these vast networks of case files and court decisions. These regulatory bodies have sprung from these decisions. Creating these laws, therefore, dominates much of these attorneys’ time and energy even when there are few commercial accidents to prosecute.

Aviation attorneys are also employed to institute safety standards. Many of these attorneys are involved in, or used to be involved in, commercial or private aviation. Many are current or former pilots and enjoy private joy flights. They are, given their concurrent knowledge of law, uniquely qualified to institute and maintain safety standards. By providing this service, they are insuring that when you buy your ticket for your next flight, you can be guaranteed of certain standards. These include safe airplane design, fully functioning safety systems (such as lighted pathways, available exits, flotation devices, etc.), regular maintenance schedules, and age limits on old aircrafts. Without these basic guarantees commercial flying could be a dangerous practice. Once these safety guidelines are established, attorneys can then use these standards to prosecute those at fault during an accident and more easily assign liability to those at fault.

Even while the United States has had two consecutive years without a death associated with the commercial airline industry, the average aviation lawyer is still busy and in demand. Despite the fact that there have been no accidents to prosecute, these specialized lawyers still must maintain strict industry safety standards, thus insuring that the unprecedented string of safe and successful flights continue, and develop and fine tune the developing field of aviation litigation and law. Therefore, these particular lawyers are still heavily in demand.

Product Description
Klara Hobza’s The New Millennium Paper Airplane Book is a collection of some of the artist’s favorite paper airplanes and stories by their creators, gathered from The New Millennium Paper Airplane Contest exhibition, held at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, New York, in 2008. This project was itself an homage to the historic paper airplane contest that took place in 1967 at the same venue–which, in a note of minor irony, was built to display rockets for the 1964 World’s Fair. The competition was open to the public, and participants were invited to fly their planes in a number of judging categories including distance flown, duration aloft, beauty, spectacular failure and children’s designs. For this book, Hobza has also included some additional paper airplane contributions from fellow enthusiasts met along the way. Each page within the book is designed to be torn out and folded into a paper airplane. A complete list of step-by-step folding instructions is also included, so you can remake your favorites.
Klara Hobza was born in Plzen, Czech Republic, and currently lives and works in New York City.

One of the best ways to get your message across a big but targeted crowd is through an airplane message. Aerial advertising has been around for a long time, and it’s surprising how it retains its new and refreshing aura. Unlike television, radio, online, and print advertising, aerial advertising remains one of the most un-crowded and most often overlooked mediums of marketing.

Aerial advertising comes in three basic variations: banners, logos, and sometimes even sky typing. Although there are few companies today that offer sky typing, towing banners and logos or both are the most popular types of aerial advertising.

People fly airplane messages for a variety of reasons. One popular use of an airplane message is not even advertising products and services per se. Many people use the aerial advertising service to catch voters’ attentions. That right, one of the most basic uses of aerial advertising involves political campaigns.

Politicians can choose to either display their logos, faces, and slogans a white clothed banner with a solid background. Sometimes, the make use of this, plus a trailing of their political slogan using a “letter banner”, a transparent strip of paper, mostly, with computer generated letters linked to each other.

While advertising via airplane message is relatively simple compared to, say, the skit of a radio play, or the cinematic effects of television advertising, airplane messaging doesn’t fail to mesmerize crowds. Airplane banners have been around for ages, but they never seem to fail to trigger reaction from people.

After all, how can you possibly ignore a small and loud buzzing plane flying 500 ft or 1000 ft above you? You have no choice but to look, and once you look up, there’s nothing else for you to do but to look at the message trailing behind the airplane’s tail.

Figures have it that in a crowd, at least 88% will remember an airplane message flying by one way or another. At least 79% of the crowd will remember the product being advertised by the banner, and at least 67% will even retain the latter half of the banner’s slogan.

In marketing terms, this is translates to “highly effective” advertising, considering people’s growing ability to tune out useless information nowadays.

Aerial advertising companies will guide you through the step-by-step procedure of designing your banner.

Eco-Friendly Travel
Looking for luxury travel that’s eco-friendly? Silverjet, a new British airline, is striving to become the world leader in environmentally friendly business-class travel. Included in every ticket price is a carbon offset fee, which is put into green projects such as wind farms or energy efficient projects. And since the carrier flies a single aircraft fleet of 767’s with configuration of just one class, they can pass savings onto passengers. Currently, the airline is only from New York City to London.

True In-Flight Comfort
Delta is now offering personal sleepers in their international business class – the first U.S. carrier to do so. The lie-flat seats recline into a 6-foot 3-inch bed and also feature an entertainment system, digital music and video, a privacy screen, video monitor, footrest, and personal cargo compartment.

Strap in the Kiddies
It’s about time! The FAA just approved a child restraint device that is making the lives of traveling parents easier. The Child Aviation Restraint System (CARES) provides the safety of a car seat without the boarding hassles. The system is small enough to fit in your pocket and easy to install. The straps latch around the back of the seat, creating a shoulder harness and the lower part attaches right to the seat belt.

Privacy, Please
Delta Airlines is installing the Cozy Suite on its international 767’s and 777’s. The design has staggered seating, providing privacy and wrapped chairs designed at the perfect angle for sleeping. Unfortunately, they won’t be installed until 2010.

Paper Shampoo
Yes, it is actually called Paper Shampoo and it’s one company’s answer to the recent liquid restrictions on airplanes. If you are flying without checking luggage, this unique shampoo solution is just what you need – all you do is mix the sheet with water and it dissolves into a lather.

Electrical Circuit Test
On a more serious note, an advanced detection device is furthering airplane safety. An electrical circuit test can detect and locate faulty wiring in airplanes, which is often hard to detect even during routine maintenance checks. The device is much more cost-efficient than troubleshooting problems that arise from faulty wiring and can prevent the grounding of entire fleets.

Surfing Sky-High
American Airlines is the latest in a string of carriers that will now be offering wireless internet on-board. Not only would this provide entertainment on long, boring flights, but business travelers could be much more productive.
