Notice, how when Obama said he was “furious” he was all of a sudden in no fault what so ever? Funny how the media downplayed this as “not having anything to do with Obama.” I’m sorry, but I think the President should know what is going on with his OWN transport.

This is a Boeing 747 Air Force One Presidential plane, duplicating the actual plane, tail #28000. It is built with blue 2″construction Dow Styrofoam from Gerber Lumber in Kidron, Ohio. For structural support I have installed plywood spares for reinforcement. For special affect I have placed all the United States Presidents pictures in the cabin windows. The plane cabin is fully lit and the exterior has flashing strobes similar to the real one. I’ve installed 2- OS91 ducted fan units and 2 imitation engine cowlings. Our very successful maiden flight was November 25, 2006. www.model747.com

In December 2012 and possibly many months before the Earth could become bombarded by massive solar flares which will knock out most all satellite electronics and blind the Earth for many years to come until more satellites can be built. But the greatest threat is from the CMEs or coronal mass ejections from the Sun. Solar flares have much less chance of hitting the Earth and their energy is much smaller than a coronal mass ejection. Coronal mass ejections are far more massive and carry much greater energy.

In the late 1800s when the sun was very active the telegraphs of their day were reported to work by themselves without their electric batteries. The crude telegraphs were made out of heavy gauge wires. Our electronics today are extremely fragile and even land based electronics might well be damage extensively from a mega solar flare hitting the Earth or especially a CME or coronal mass ejection.

Mankind will be in the greatest danger in December of 2012. Before this time much of the satellites above the Earth will probably be damaged beyond repair and useless junk in space. But in December the planets align with the Earth and this is when the Sun could send a huge coronal mass ejection aimed directly at the Earth. The shading effect of the planets will be in line with the Earth and a shading effect will funnel any CME directly to Earth.

In December and before most land based electronics might be severely damaged or destroyed by CMEs. If electronics are not turned off and enclosed in metal or aluminum foil to deflect heavy ion radiations then these solid state electronic devices might be overloaded and destroyed. Additional underground shielding might be required to prevent damage to critical electronics. Little research is known about CME damage so this is highly speculative but it is a logical conclusion of CMEs and high energy particles reaching the Earth during peak solar maximums.

This possible massive CME electronic damage will poise a grave risk to all modern armies that depend on electronics as their main force multiplier. If all missiles, airplanes, tanks, trucks, personnel carriers, ships, submarines, and virtually every other major military platform and communications are severely damaged or destroyed then modern armies could be severely compromised for many years to come. Armies need to learn very quickly how to fully protect their most sensitive equipment at least temporarily during peak CME activity of the 24th solar maximum beginning possibly as early as 2010 but much more likely in early 2011.

CMEs take three to five days to reach the Earth. Massive solar flares can take only hours to impact the Earth. But if all upper solar satellites are destroyed then the Earth will have only ground based observatories which is a big disadvantage. So the Earth may have little warning of a major CME event in 2012.

On the bright side all armies will be equally reduced to rubble so to speak. At least their electronics will be equally damaged. Many older tube type radios and TV might not be damaged because they are not the delicate solid state electronics. But armies will not be in any shape to attack anyone because Armies depend on oil to move forward and attack from the air. So war making will be equally reduced somewhat.

Large land based armies like China and Korea will have an advantage in soldiers and small arms which will probably be the only war fighting equipment still viable. Nuclear weapons, chemical and biological weapons’ delivery will probably be destroyed. So manual timers would have to be utilized or makeshift electronics that survived the CMEs destruction. And so no long range detonations will be possible. Most all major combat engagements will be eyeball to eyeball so to speak and detonations of major nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons would likely harm both sides of a conflict nearly equally.

2012 will likely end modern warfare for many generations to come if not entirely. Israel will be particularly vulnerable to attack and outnumbered for years to come. Surrounded on all sides by Arabs which have large conventional armies. If Israel doesn’t take steps to dramatically reduce electronic damage to planes, tanks, missiles, and communications then Israel will have to stockpile conventional ammunitons because little help will be forthcoming from the USA and little transport of any kind will be available for many years.

Only nuclear weapons used liberally on all surrounding Arab territories and cities for hundreds of miles could save Israel from massive conventional attacks from Arabs. Since Arabs have largely conventional Armies and weapons they can simply walk into Israel areas of combat to engage the enemy. And without the electronic multiplier of weapons Israelis will be greatly outnumbered. But they will have the advantage of the defender and they will be fighting for their lives because they will be surrounded. Of the two adversaries I would have to go with Israel as the probable winner in this possible war of the future. But it would be only by the use of all of their nuclear weapons in a kind of scorched Earth policy upon all the surrounding Arab lands and cities closest to Israel. Hopefully they will have enough nuclear weapons. But if not there will be only escape from the sea to a world which will be little prepared to receive them and not much better off than them.

I doubt that major wars after 2012 will be motivated by ethnic or religious bigotry and hatred. The main wars will be over oil, water, minerals, and croplands for basic survival needs. The world will have to revert to a vegetarian lifestyle for many decades because grains will be needed to feed people instead of animals. The only animal husbandry would be open range cattle and sheep livestock which can make use of marginal grazing lands.

The West has relied on electronic warfare as its major force multiplier but it has million of potential recruits from fairly large populations to drawn from for increasing conventional armies. But large armies may be a thing of the past after December 2012 or before. America is somewhat isolated from any potential enemies. Only Mexico’s lawlessness and poverty might be a major concern after 2012.

Most ethic and religious differences and resource wars would occur in Asia and Africa. Australia would be a save haven because of its great distance from any possible enemy or attack but they might be deluged with boat people trying to sail to their country for a safe haven. The lack of oil and energy to move armies being Australia’s biggest protection. Lack of water resources might be Australia’s biggest weakness in this time of predicted great droughts.

It seems prudent to research extensively now in 2009 the damage that might be caused by 2012 massive CME events and prepare adequate countermeasures to protect those electronic assets. But few people take these events seriously to their great future peril. Hopefully I am wrong and they will not occur or they will not be as severe as expected. It really does not take that much energy and material to enclose electronics in metals or isolate them at the times of maximum solar CMEs.

2012 is mentioned in over a dozen major traditions as an end of an age. And this is the end of a 25,800 year cycle where we intersect the galactic equator from 1980 to 2016. This is a time of increased light energy from the galactic center of our galaxy which acts like a laser of concentrated light energy and is heating up our planet and the Sun slightly. And this increased heat will continue building up like an oven and remain with us for many years. Seaports will need to be moved far inland for protection from massive hurricanes and populations will shift dramatically.

I see electronic warfare ending for good on this planet one way or another after 2012 as mankind shifts major resources into just surviving the next year with enough food, energy, and water. Little energy and resources will be available to make war. And all of mankind will be given a second chance to get it right and live in harmony with Nature instead of conquering nature. Pollution will be gone almost overnight when the lights go out. And these massive CMEs that I call the “Hand of God” will give mankind a second chance and additional time to correct the unwise course of many technologies which harms the Earth. — J.E. Ante

The Cadet Chapel was awarded the American Institute of Architects’ National 25 Year Award in 1996, and as part of the Cadet Area, was named a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 2004.
Architecture and construction
The most striking aspect of the Chapel is its row of seventeen spires. The original design called for nineteen spires, but this number was reduced due to budget issues. The structure is a tubular steel frame of 100 identical tetrahedrons, each 75feet (23m) long, weighing five tons, and enclosed with clear aluminum panels. The panels were fabricated in Missouri and shipped by rail to the site. The tetrahedrons are spaced a foot apart, creating gaps in the framework that are filled with one-inch thick colored glass. The tetrahedrons comprising the spires are filled by triangular clear aluminum panels, while the tetrahedrons between the spires are filled with a mosaic of colored glass in aluminum frame.
The Cadet Chapel itself is 150feet (46m) high, 280feet (85m) long, and 84feet (26m) wide. The front fa?ade, on the south, has a wide granite stairway with steel railings capped by aluminum handrails leading up one story to a landing. At the landing is a band of gold anodized aluminum doors, and gold anodized aluminum sheets apparently covering original windows.
The shell of the chapel and surrounding grounds cost $3.5 million to build. Various furnishings, pipe organs, liturgical fittings and adornments of the chapel were presented as gifts from various individuals and organizations. In 1959, a designated Easter offering was also taken at Air Force bases around the world to help complete the interior.
Worship areas
The Cadet Chapel was designed specifically to house three distinct worship areas under a single roof. Inspired by chapels at Sainte-Chapelle in France and the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi in Italy, architect Walter Netsch stacked the spaces on two main levels. The Protestant nave is located on the upper level, while the Catholic and Jewish chapels and one all-faiths room are located beneath it. Beneath this level is a larger all-faiths room and two meeting rooms. Each chapel has its own entrance, and services may be held simultaneously without interfering with one another.
Protestant chapel

Interior of the Protestant Chapel

The organ at the back of the Protestant Chapel, and the ceiling
The Protestant Chapel is located on the main floor, and is designed to seat 1200 individuals. The nave measures 64 by 168feet (51m), reaching up to 94feet (29m) at the highest peak. The center aisle terminates at the chancel.
The Chapel’s tetrahedrons form the walls and the pinnacled ceiling of the Protestant Chapel. Stained glass windows form ribbons of color between the tetrahedrons, and progress from darker to lighter as they reach the altar. The chancel is set off by a crescent-shaped, varicolored reredos behind the altar. Semi-precious stones from Colorado and pietra santa marble from Italy cover its 1,260-square-foot (117m2) area. The focal point of the chancel is a 46-foot (14m) high aluminum cross suspended above it. The pews are made of American walnut and African mahogany. The ends of the pews were sculpted to resemble World War I airplane propellers. The backs of the pews are capped by a strip of aluminum similar to the leading edge of a fighter aircraft wing.
Above the narthex, in the rear, is a choir balcony and organ, designed by Walter Holtkamp of the Holtkamp Organ Company, and built by M. P. Moller Company of Hagerstown, Maryland. The organ has 83 ranks and 67 stops controlling 4,334 pipes. Harold E.

All I hear about are C-17’s and how they are going to make our work load a lot easier and not what they are going to do with the C-5’s. The C-17 it’s primary transport for outsized equipment. It seems the Air Force is doing the something with the 17’s as the Marine Corps wants to do with the MV-22, and that is to put all their eggs in one basket. The C-5 (A model?) has among the longest “down” times of any aircraft in the inventory.

Yes, only applies to this base; I have no idea what’s going on at any other bases. The C-17 is a new bird, and as such it gets used a lot to show it off. The generals are playing with their new toy, so to speak. It has some advantages over the C-5. It has shorter takeoffs & landings, shorter downtime, easier to maintain, etc. But it’s obvious just by looking that the C-5 is still the big boy on the block. Both planes have their own roles to fill, but a C-5 can just plain move a lot more things then the C-17 can. From what I see at this base.

So, the AF is upgrading all the C-5 B models here at Travis with all new engines & cockpits (avionics). The A models are going out the window, and for every A model that leaves we’re going to acquire a C-17. So, as far as I know, this will be the only base with C-5s, KC-10s, and C-17s. (Not to mention our detachment of F-16s and TACAMO). I think they’re going to give the A models to reserve bases, but I’m not to sure on that. All this is supposed to happen in the next 5 years.

It doesn’t make you a little uneasy that our heavy lift long haul capabilities will be going down. There was an article today about how our air mobility will be strained if we have to go into Iraq. I can already see it, a stretched C-17. They did it to the 141’s and 130’s and they’ll do it again once they decide they need an aircraft like the C-5’s.

From what I understand they’re not getting rid of the C-5. They’re just not going to have so many at once base. They’re moving the A models to different bases. Some are actually increasing there airlift capabilities be upgrading the C-5 and buying a lot more C-17s.

Affirmative, on the C-5. None are being retired. All are being re-engined, and the electronics in the A’s are being upgrade to the B standard. Supposedly this will alleviate the lack of mission readiness issues that plague the C-5. The AF did just order 16 more C-17s, and plans to do it again next year. It just seems to me that we need more C-5’s as well. But I do like the C-17 replacing the 141s. That is a great improvement in itself. I thought they were letting the C-5 run their life cycles and going with C-17’s. These upgrades will keep the big boys going for many years to come.

All A-Model C-5’s have been upgraded to B-Model specifications except for certain engine bearings. That’s pending right now. Lockheed offered a C-5 C model and 2 C-130J’s for the same price America paid for one C-17. A great deal for airplanes that were already tried and true but the pentagon likes to take chances; or play favorites.

During the maiden flight of the C-17 in front of members of the Senate, there was an identical C-17 with the same tail number painted on it in case the number 1 plane had problems. It was flying just over a mountain range near the base and could take the place of the primary should it fail. During the time that the C-17 was being tested it couldn’t take a full cargo load from the East coast to Europe as advertised. The C-5 and C-141 could do it easily.

What was the Pentagon’s response? Make ALL airplanes stop in the Azores to refuel. We never had to refuel nor did we have cargo for Portugal normally, but because the C-17 couldn’t make it, we had to pretend that we couldn’t make it either. It was the biggest charade in the non-cold-war world. We were trying to fool our own taxpayers.
